Challenge
Applicants seeking scientific research funding opportunities come to the NIGMS to self-assess their grant matches and apply to grants that most-closely fit their research needs.
The goal of this redesign was to streamline the information needed for an individual to grant-match and initiate the application process, as well as streamline for the individual seeking training in a specific field, while also recategorizing information to ensure that the NIGMS's scientific resources are more easily discoverable for the general public.
The original NIGMS site was designed by my team years prior. The data and requirements' gathering retained through both iterations contained information which the client aimed to make publicly accessible. After years of foot traffic, however, the client wanted to reprioritize and redirect according to updated needs. Some of the more frequented pages over the years were internal pages with no direct line from the landing page, making it difficult for users to navigate and find essential features.
Results
The redesigned website features a clean, clutter-free interface, making it easier for users to navigate and access essential features. The improved workflow resulted in a 60% increase in direct through-line according to user testing. The updated website is currently being finalized in development.
